What is a good gardening website for amateurs in the uk? I wanna learn how to grow great looking flower beds? instead of the pile of weeds that i curently produce?
A forum where i can show photos of whats happening in my garden and get advice would be great |
You can go here: www.gardensuccesstips.com/
There are a lots of tips on Organic Gardening. |
Why does the UK government persist in putting complete amateurs? in charge of very important departments?
Even the appalling Jacqui Smith said she didnt have the training for the jobs she was given. A ludicrous way of conducting business! |
Probably because they are the best of the bad lot elected by the voters.
Having said that, you don't necessarily have to skilled at a practical job in order to be skilled at organising and handling the skilled people who do it. |
Got my advanced UK amateur radio licence, need opinions on good radios covering the microwave bands? I've only got about £1500 to spend and second hand could be an option. I want something that covers all of the bands, including as many of the microwave ones as possible. I know I may be limited to only the first few microwave bands.
More than 100 watts would be nice too. |
| the microwave bands are only used to cook hams. |
Can I use a UK foundation amateur radio license in other European countries, such as Spain and France? I would like to know if I can use the UK foundation license outside the UK without the need to get a full license, is this possible? anything like a temporary license or a way of picking UK transmitters? |
Nope, sorry, you need a full Class A or Class B licence to operate in CEPT countries.
"Can Intermediates or the new Foundation licencees operate abroad under CEPT Rec. T/R 61-01?
No, neither Intermediates nor Foundation licencees are able to operate abroad under the terms of their Intermediate or Foundation licence." |
Has the uk government banned amateur porn sites? Why doesn't or has the UK government ban amateur porn sites like xtube, youporn, tube 8 etc. I read somewhere that they had. Surely they must be at least monitoring the people who go on these sites, since there are many things on there which are against uk law? |
| Its not illegal to watch, ISP's are not interested, despite many studies no one can find any reason to ban them |
Where can I buy chromic acid in the UK for amateur use? I am looking to restore some bikes and re-doing the chroming. Thanks. Regards. |
It's really nasty stuff.
You are better off sending off the parts to be done professionally. |
How can people from the UK get a feel for wrestling by trying amateur wrestling competitions? Since wrestling isn't as popular in the UK as it is in America, they don't really do amateur wrestling competitions in the UK. So how can people in the UK who want to try out of wrestling have a background in it from a young age if there is nothing to try out for? |
| Some wrestling schools do offer freestyle wrestling lessons to those under 18 and then professional training after that, i looked into this once, and others offer pro training to under 18's but you have to have a parent there and other things like that. We have a few ways into wrestling here in england but it is really isn't popular enough to run anything more. |
How do I go about finding what musicals I get can the rights for my amateur organisation (uk) to perform? I run a university society and we want to put on a musical next semester. However, I am aware that you need to have the rights before this can be done. Does anybody know how I go about getting these and is there a list somewhere of rights that can currently be obtained and how much they cost? I'm aware that you can't have the rights for musicals currently in the west end or touring. |
Not sure about UK rights. In the US there are several play publishing houses: Samuel French, Dramatists Play Service, Music Theater International (MTI).
MTI handles only musicals and they seem to allow for non-US licensing. You might also try a search in the UK for "play publisher" or "musical publisher" |
Amateur and pro cat shows in UK? Is there an up to date list of all cat shows in 2008 coming up in the UK?
Amateur and pro shows...
Any info will be very much appreciated :)
Thanks |
| There's a TICA show in the UK just about every month - ticamembers.org/calendar/ Pedigree cats as well as Household Pets (cats of no particular breed, purebred cats without papers) can compete in their shows. |
How many amateur and professional photographers are there in the UK? I've had a bet and I want to find out how many amateur and professional photographers there are in the UK. Would anyone know the answer - if not, how do I find out this information or where can I look up these statistics or demographics? |
The UK government don't keep this data and the problem is the Pro/Am sector and Saturday wedding photographers, who muddy the picture.
Nevertheless the official figures are something like 50,000 professionals in the UK (though there are about 15,000 or so who are members of the biggest pro groups). As for amateurs - how long is a piece of string when almost everyone takes photos? What is your definition of say a 'keen amateur'? I use indicators like the number of photo mags in WHS and their audited readership... it's about as good as you'll get. |
